Choosing the right shower enclosure, and how much it will cost

11/16/2017

So. Many. Options.  So, where to start?  First thing you may think of is expense, believe it or not, you can trade in that old shower curtain for a shower enclosure for less than you think.  Best way I can describe it is this way:

- $ Framed glass enclosures
- $$ Semi-framed glass enclosures (pictured)
- $$$ Frameless glass enclosures

Once you've figured out a budget for your enclosure,  now it's time to decide on the  options.  Obviously, the options you choose will drive cost as well.   Hardware - what finish hardware would you like?  The common hardware finish options (and also the most affordable) are chrome, brushed nickel, etc.  Most people tend to match hardware finish with their existing plumbing fixtures, towel bars, etc.  As far as styles of hardware go, the sky is the limit.  Whether you like Victorian style or contemporary, there is a style that will match your home and taste.

After selecting your hardware options, is the obvious - Glass.  Ultimately glass will be your biggest factor relating to cost.  Primarily, glass type and thickness, and square footage.  Most affordable glass options are clear and obscure but are essentially endless.  From acid etched and rain glass, to custom engravings, again, the sky is truly the limit.  Thickness can range from 1/4" -1/2" based on the enclosure you choose.

Finally, the design of your enclosure.  This is what can really make a custom shower 'pop'.  Starting with the basics of sliding doors to hinged doors, going to full on custom designs it can all be done.  Whatever environment your shower or tub may be in chances are an enclosure can be installed.  Contact us at Beach Glass and we'd be happy to go over all of your options, and give you a free quote to get started.

I've been looking into getting some custom showers done in my home. I think that being able to get a frameless shower like you mentioned would be great for my master bathroom. I'm going to have to look for a few good custom shower contractors and start making plans!

My husband and I trying to redesign our bathroom, but we aren't sure which shower enclosure is best for us. Your article had some great information about shower enclosures, and I liked how you said that you can get different styles of glass for the door. I like the idea of acid etched glass, so we'll keep this in mind when choosing the best enclosure for our shower.

You did a great job of explaining that once we're already aware of the costs, deciding as to the kind of enclosure comes next. This information is really so timely because we are planning for a major home renovation this coming November. Thus, if our budget permits, we may include shower enclosures.

My sister accidentally broke the glass in the bathroom and she wants to have it replaced. It was explained here that framed glass enclosures cost less but she still needs to figure out a budget. Moreover, it's recommended to hire professionals when planning to have a frameless shower.

My brother just got married and moved into a new house with his wife. They are trying to figure out how to decorate their house but are having a lot of trouble with the bathroom, all they know is that they want glass. I'll be sure to let them know that there are a lot of options like acid etched and rain glass to choose from.

I like your advice to figure out if you want a framed or frameless door for your shower enclosure. When choosing one, it might be a good idea to consider the style of your bathroom. It could help to consult your installation contractor or designer to get their help with choosing a shower door that fits your bathroom.

I like that you mention how the budget you have to install a shower door will help determine which kind of door you can install. My husband and I have been wanting to upgrade our bathroom to what we have wanted to for a while. I think we should look into getting a new shower door to upgrade it to what we want, and possibly install a bathtub.

I was never aware that there are many shower door options for us to choose from. My wife and I recently renovated our bathroom. I think I will suggest to her a frameless glass door seeing how it is easier to clean and modern-looking.

I'm planning on renovating my bathroom, but I'm not sure how to go about it. It makes sense that I would want to consider glazing for my shower! I can see how that could really change up the look of it.
