Commonly referred to as "dual-pane" or "thermal-pane", Insulated glass is common in almost all exterior window and glass applications after 1980. Since then, insulated glass technology has continued to grow to the point where most manufactures offer 10 year minimum from failure, and some even offer lifetime warranties.
Most common issues with insulated glass are what's called seal failure. People commonly refer to this as "fog in between the glass". Unfortunately, the only solution to this issue is replacement of the glass insulated unit. Folks will also frequently ask if just one pane of the insulated unit (in cases where only one pane is broken and on is still intact), can be replaced; the simple answer to this question is no. Unfortunately, where insulated glass is a sealed air-tight unit, a full replacement is necessary.
