Frameless Glass Shower Enclosures in Southern Maine

Frameless glass shower enclosures are what we do every day. We've been shower glass specialists since 2010. Beach Glass & Window Company designs and installs custom frameless shower doors, panels, sliders and steam shower enclosures for homes across York and Cumberland counties, from Gray to York. Our workshop is at 371 Clarks Mills Road in Dayton. When you call, you'll talk with Chris or David, the same people who measure your bathroom, draw your enclosure and install it.

Frameless, semi-frameless or framed?

  • Frameless. Heavy tempered glass held by hinges and clips, with no metal frame around the door. Most frameless doors use 3/8" tempered glass; 1/2" glass feels more solid and costs more. This is what most of our customers choose, because it shows off the tile and is easy to keep clean.
  • Semi-frameless. Some framing along certain edges, with a cleaner look than a fully framed door.
  • Framed. Metal framing around the glass. We still offer it, but it's rarely chosen these days.

Layouts we build

  • Door and panel, or door only, for alcove showers.
  • Corner and neo-angle enclosures that make the most of a tight footprint.
  • Knee-wall and half-wall enclosures, with glass set on top of a tiled wall.
  • Curbless and walk-in showers, including fixed glass screens with no door.
  • Glass cut to sloped ceilings, which is common in Maine capes, cottages and attic baths.
  • Steam shower enclosures, run all the way to the ceiling to hold in the steam.
  • Frameless sliders for tubs and showers where a swinging door won't fit, including the CRL Cambridge, Serenity and HydroSlide.

Glass and hardware options

  • Clear or low-iron glass. Standard glass has a slight green tint that shows on the edges. Low-iron (Starphire) glass is clearer.
  • ShowerGuard coated glass, available on request, which helps the glass stay clear and easy to clean.
  • Privacy glass. Acid-etched or frosted glass softens the view and still lets light through. You can even mix it, with clear glass on the front and frosted glass on the side.
  • Hardware finishes from C.R. Laurence (CRL) and FHC in every finish they offer, including polished chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, satin brass and brushed bronze, for hinges, handles, clips and sliders.

We bring hardware-finish and glass-type samples to every walkthrough. A full frameless shower mock-up is also on display at Devoe Color & Design Center in Biddeford, so you can see and touch one before you decide.

How a frameless shower job works

  1. Consultation and walkthrough. We measure on site and talk through layout, glass and hardware. We measure once the tile is finished.
  2. Design, drawing and estimate. You get a drawing with dimensions, door swing, glass spec and finish, plus photos of the actual hardware. Nothing is cut until you approve it.
  3. Fabrication. Glass is fabricated locally. Typical turnaround is 3–6 weeks from measure to install.
  4. Installation. We install on your schedule and clean up before we leave. If there's ever an issue, we'll make it right at no cost to you.

We don't tile or remodel bathrooms. We work closely with local builders, designers and tile setters and are happy to recommend one.

Frameless Shower FAQ

How much does a frameless shower enclosure cost? Every enclosure is custom, so the price depends on size, layout, glass and hardware. Every estimate is free and itemized, so you'll know exactly what's included before anything is ordered.

How long does it take? Typical turnaround is 3–6 weeks from measure to install, because every piece of glass is made to your measurements. It can run longer in the busy season or if a finish is backordered, and we'll tell you up front.

Can you replace my old framed or sliding door? Yes. We take out the old door and put in new glass sized to your existing opening. In most cases the tile stays as it is.

Do you have a showroom? No. We have a 1,600 sq ft workshop in Dayton, but no showroom with displays. You can see a full frameless mock-up at Devoe Color & Design Center in Biddeford, and we bring samples to every walkthrough.
